The following are a list of trophies that the Barrie District Ladies Slo-Pitch League hand out on an annual basis. All teams within the league vote at the end of the ball season to determine who they feel is deserving of each award.
JUDY STURGESS AWARD
After Judy and her husband started the men's league in 1974, Judy saw the need for women to have the opportunity to play slo-pitch as well, and started our women's league in 1979. When the league started, there were only 4 teams and all games were played at Painswick Park. Judy was our first President, despite the fact that she did not play in the league, further enforcing the significance of this award. This award is presented to the individual giving outstanding contribution to the league.
Bonnie Veenstra - 2007 Cindy Cook - 2008 Robyn Weldon-Burke - 2009,2010,2011
BETTY HOMENUK AWARD
Betty was a short stop in Division One, and extremely involved in the league and always encouraged others to play to the best of their abilities. Betty passed away from cancer, and every year in her honor, we present the award for the most outstanding player in the league.
PAT LEFEBVRE AWARD
Pat joined the league shortly after it started and was a pitcher for the Molson Diamonds. She was described as fun and always encouraged fair play. Sadly, she and her son were killed in the Barrie tornado in 1985. This trophy was donated on her behalf from an unknown source, and is awarded to the most sportsmanlike pitcher in the league.
ART MARTIN MEMORIAL AWARD
Art was the President of the Umpires Association and umpired in our Ladies league for several years. He passed away from cancer and this trophy is presented in his honor to the team displaying sportsmanship and fair play.
GEORGE TURNBULL AWARD
The George Turnbull award is presented to the most dedicated coach in the league. George was a part of our Ladies league for over 20 years. He started out by helping Comming Attractions, a team that was once in the league; he became President of the Ladies league for a few years and then went on to coach J. Stollar. George devoted many long hours to the league and could usually be found at the diamond as he tried to watch as many games as he could.
